Squidragon Quest part 3

Dungeons and Dragons fans will clearly see that the Naga’s spell is phrased like the game’s spell Charm Person. This gag’s based on an old gaming adventure where my smart assed Jester character was able to escape from a Naga by treating it as it did his other friends. After being charmed and told to sit in the snake woman’s nest he was told to “Don’t leave the nest! I’m going to get us some food”. After a while I thought “If I take the nest with me, I’m not leaving it. Then I can get on with the big quest I have to do.” and it seemed in character enough for the DM to allow it. I then saw a simliar moment in the movie Empire Records where a guy was told to stay on the couch and he started walking around with the cushions.

I haven’t been playing D&D regularly for quite some time but I do enjoy listening to a podcast called Fear The Boot about role playing games. It’s shooting the fat (or chewing the breeze) all about the theory behind gaming mechanics. If you’re into that kind of thing you might want to check it out.

Ha! A jester true to his archetype – Till Eulenspiegel did something similar under threat of being hanged if he turned up on a local lord’s land ever again: he bought a cartful of soil off a bemused farmer and drove it into the lord’s burgh, sitting on it. (“Get your land off my land!”)
